JP Carroll - Inspiration J.P. Carroll - Inspiration

J.P. is the inspiration for this entire foundation. He was lost due to a fatal prescription drug interaction on September 25, 2012. Prescription drug misuse and abuse claims a life every 12 minutes in the United States. It claims more lives than car accidents and illegal overdoses combined. In his memory we strive to raise awareness and educate others about this epidemic. JP will never be forgotten through this important work.

Don Hill Don Hill - President

Don is the co-founder and president of the foundation. Don has a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish from University of Utah and a Master’s Degree in Business. Don has over 30 years of supply Chain and Logistics experience both domestic and global. Don has been responsible for the RFP process and startup of companies in China, Mexico, Turkey, and Puerto Rico. He is currently the Director of Global Operations for Brinker International.

Karen Hill Karen Hill - Executive Director

Karen is the Executive Director of the foundation and J.P.'s mother. Karen has a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Social Sciences from Colorado State University and is a Flight Attendant for Southwest Airlines. Previously she owned and operated her own medical billing and scheduling company for over 15 years and is well known for her incredible customer service by several physicians in the Denver area. She has years of experience with hiring and training personnel as well as office management experience. Prior to starting up her own business she worked as a Unit Coordinator in the Emergency Room in hospitals in both Colorado and California. Karen has been in the healthcare industry for over 20 years.

Kristina Carroll Searls Kristina Carroll Searls - Secretary and Treasurer

Kristina is the secretary for the foundation and J.P.’s sister. She graduated with a double major in Biology and Secondary Education from Colorado State University. Upon graduation she obtained a position at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in HIV-AIDS research. During this time she became a published scientist. She recently graduated from the Red Rocks Physician Assistant program and is working as a PA-C for Colorado Psychiatry Center. She hopes to make a difference in the medical community by sharing her firsthand knowledge of methods of safe prescribing.

Suzi Stolte Suzi Stolte - Director of Marketing and Communications
Suzi spent over 20 years working in the fields of communications and public relations in both for-profit and nonprofit organizations. She served as the Associate Vice President of Communications and Public Relations at Pinnacol Assurance, the Director of Communications and Special Events at Bonfils Blood Center Foundation and the Director of Communications and Marketing at the Colorado Association of School Executives. A Colorado native and a graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder, Suzi spent her career developing communications, marketing and public relations plans, was responsible for handling media relations and planned and executed numerous large events, including golf tournaments. In 2011, Suzi lost her youngest daughter, Heidi, to mixed drug toxicity.

Whit Oyler Whit Oyler

Whit Oyler if the Project Manager for the foundation and the Colorado Consortium for Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention. He is pursuing a Master of Public Health at the University of Colorado. He recently completed the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Prevention Fellowship and was housed in the Colorado Department of Human Services – Office of Behavioral Health, Community Prevention and Early Intervention Team for almost two years. He received his Bachelor of Science in Health Education and Promotion from Oklahoma State University.

Robert J. Valuck Robert J. Valuck, Ph.D., R.Ph - Medical Advisor
Dr. Valuck is a professor at the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He conducts drug safety research, focusing on rare, serious outcomes of psychotropic drugs. He is also the Coordinating Center Director for the Colorado Consortium for Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention, a statewide collaborative of nearly 200 participants from state health and human service agencies, universities, professional associations, treatment centers, and patient groups.

Jill Pechacek Jill Pechacek, M.D., F.A.A.F.P. - Medical Advisor

Dr. Pechacek is a medical advisor to the foundation and is a board certified physician in family practice and aesthetic medicine and is a co-founder of Aspen Family Care and Aspen Medical Aesthetics. Dr. Pechacek was featured in 5280 magazine and received the "Top Doc" award for family physicians. She has also received the Most Compassionate Doctor and Patient's Choice awards three years in a row with

Stan T. Paprocki Stan T. Paprocki - Advisor

Mr. Paprocki retired in March 2015 as the Director of Prevention and Early Intervention Programs at the Office of Behavioral Health for the Colorado Department of Human Services. In this position he provided leadership for the federal and state funded substance use disorder prevention and early intervention programs statewide. He served as the Colorado National Prevention Network Representative (NPN) for the National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors (NASADAD). Mr. Paprocki has been involved with prevention education for 28 years on a regional, national, local and state level.

Patty Skolnik Patty Skolnik - Advisor

Patty is an advisor to the foundation and the founder and executive director of Citizens for Patient Safety, which is committed to promoting the safe healthcare of patients through advocacy, education, and systemic change while working with health professionals and medical institutions. She has been featured on The Today Show, The Doctors, and many other national news channels.

Geremi Boom Geremi Boom, PharmD
Dr. Boom is a pharmacist at the Medical Center of Aurora in Aurora, CO and was the first recipient of the JP Prescription Drug Awareness Foundation Scholarship during her time as a pharmacy student at the University of Colorado. She has maintained a special passion for prescription drug abuse awareness and continues to be an advocate by promoting safe prescribing practices and medication education within the Aurora community.

Marta Brooks Marta J. Brooks, PharmD, MS

Dr. Marta Brooks is currently the Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and an Associate Professor at the Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions School of Pharmacy at Regis University. She attended the University of Connecticut at Storrs where she received undergraduate degrees in pharmacy and nutritional sciences. After a general hospital pharmacy residency, she attended the University of Texas Health Science Center where she received her PharmD and then pursued a specialized Nutrition Support residency at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans’ Hospital. Most recently, she completed a Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy with the University of Florida. With close to 20 years in progressively increasing roles of responsibility for delivering healthcare communications and leading multifunctional teams, Dr. Brooks has collaborated with numerous stakeholders across academia, industry and the healthcare community. Her successful career in corporate and academic environments includes diverse areas of expertise including administration, departmental supervision, P&L management, marketing, scientific content development, project management, and mentoring of staff/teams. Prior to joining the Regis University School of Pharmacy, Dr. Brooks was President of ProEd Communications, Inc.® in Beachwood, Ohio for eight years. Prior to this role she spent 10 years with the Centeon Management Group family of companies, where she held leadership positions in Scientific Affairs, Client Services, and Program Management culminating in President of the Genesis Healthcare division located in Bridgewater, New Jersey. Throughout her career Dr. Brooks has advanced patient care by delivering quality healthcare education and communications while attending to the needs of the people who develop them—the academicians, the practicing healthcare professionals and her staff. Her areas of research interest include opioid misuse and abuse, matters of policy and healthcare related to pharmacy, and interprofessional education.
